Meeting with Representatives of the ICMPD in Vienna (Austria)

19.01.2018

On 18 January, ELI Secretary General Vanessa Wilcox and Project Officer Ala Šabanovič met representatives of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to discuss the ELI’s recently published Statement on Detention of Asylum Seekers and Irregular Migrants and the Rule of Law.

The two were cordially welcomed by Malin Frankenhaeuser (Head of Policy, Research & Strategy Department at the ICMPD) and Sergo Mananashvili (Advisor on Return and Readmission at the ICMPD) to the headquarters of the ICMPD in Vienna. The latter was also a Member of the Project Team of the Project on Detention of Asylum Seekers and Irregular Migrants and the Rule of Law.

While Vanessa Wilcox spoke about the ELI and its activities, Šabanovič focused on the Statement, a theme closely related to the area of work of the ICMPD. Among other things, Šabanovič explained that the ELI’s Statement identified due process standards and material conditions including conditions for detention, designed to enhance the implementation of existing EU law in the field. Šabanovič also spoke about the outcome of the ELI’s Migration Project as well as key past and prospective dissemination activities.
