Croatian Hub Held the Seventh Webinar in its Webinar Series

08.10.2021

On 8 October 2021, the ELI Croatian Hub held its seventh webinar in a series of webinars organised to contribute to discussions on current ELI projects and recent developments in Croatian, comparative, and EU law. The webinar gathered forty participants from Croatia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and North Macedonia.

The webinar started with a welcome address from Dr Ivan Tot (ELI Croatian Hub Co-Chair; Assistant Professor at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics and Business) who introduced the speaker and the topic of the seventh webinar.

Following the introduction, Prof Dr Alan Uzelac (Full Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Procedure Law at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Law) delivered a speech on ‘European Rules of Civil Procedure: How Could the ELI-UNIDROIT Model Improve Croatian Procedural Law?’. Professor Uzelac gave an overview of the background, history, aims, development, methodology and outcomes of the ELI-UNIDROIT ‘From Transnational Principles to European Rules of Civil Procedure’ project. In his presentation, he particularly focused on the work of the project’s Working Group on Obligations of Parties, Lawyers and Judges, which he coordinated with Professor CH (Remco) Van Rhee (Maastricht University). Professor Uzelac presented the structure and content of the ELI-UNIDROIT Model European Rules of Civil Procedure, which were recently published with Oxford University Press, highlighting Principles (Part I, Section 2), and the model rules on case management (Part III), in particular. In the last part of the presentation, he addressed the potential benefits of the ELI-UNIDROIT Model European Rules of Civil Procedure for the reform of Croatian civil procedural law.

The presentation was followed by a Q&A session.

The next ELI Croatian Hub webinar will be held on 22 October 2021.
