ELI Croatian Hub Held the 24th Webinar in its Webinar Series

17.04.2023

On 17 April 2023, the ELI Croatian Hub held its 24th webinar in a series of webinars organised to contribute to discussions on current ELI projects and recent developments in Croatian, comparative and EU law.

The webinar gathered 30 participants from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia.

The webinar opened with a welcome address from Mr Hrvoje Pauković (ELI Croatian Hub Co-Chair; Managing Director of Croatian Insurance Bureau) and was followed by a lecture on ‘Lawyers and Legal Services in the Case-Law of the Court of Justice of the European Union’, delivered by Dr Ema Menđušić Škugor (Attorney-at-law and Managing Partner at Divjak Topić Bahtijarević & Krka Law Firm, Zagreb).

Dr Menđušić Škugor gave an overview of three generations of Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) cases related to the freedom of establishment of lawyers, the mutual recognition of professional qualifications, the freedom of lawyers to provide legal services, and unfair contract terms in contracts for the provision of legal services. The focus of the lecture was on the recent CJEU judgment in Case C-395/21, DV v MA, ECLI:EU:C:2023:14, and the assessment of the unfairness of a term in a contract for the provision of legal services provided by a lawyer to a client under which the price set for the legal services was on an hourly rate.

The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session.

The next ELI Croatian Hub webinar will be held on 16 May 2023.
