ELI Environmental Law SIG Held a Fifth Seminar in its 2022 Seminar Series

12.05.2022

On 12 May 2022, the ELI Environmental Law SIG is held a fifth online seminar entitled ‘Green Data Deal: Bridging Data Regulation and Environmental Sustainability.’

The seminar highlighted the link between the regulation of data flows and environmental law in the European framework. In particular, the discussion focused on data sharing incentives and duties in B2B and B2G relationships in EU legislation as a tool for the wide availability of data helpful for environmental protection.

Big data and artificial intelligence are going to play a key role in the environmental transition. The availability of ‘green data’ and the capability to process it, both by government authorities and private companies, are necessary in tackling environmental degradation and climate change. From this perspective, the EU is launching the ‘Common European Green Deal Data Space’, and other initiatives such as ‘GreenData4All’, to use the major potential of data in support of a greener and carbon-neutral circular economy.
