AI and Public Administration: ELI Model Rules Presented at the Intellectual Property Case Law Conference (IPCLC) 2022

08.07.2022

On 8 July 2022, Judge Marc Clément, Co-Reporter of the ELI project on AI and Public Administration, held a presentation of the ELI Model Rules on Impact Assessment of Algorithmic Decision-Making Systems Used by Public Administration at the IPCLC 2022.

Judge Clément presented the ELI Model Rules at the ‘Challenges in the Digital Age’ session. He stressed the need for a technology-neutral approach to digital technologies so that legislation can take account of the wide variety of techniques involved. He added that in order to develop trust in the administration, the Model Rules proposed by ELI, which are based on an impact assessment and a transparent process, are necessary for European citizens to have confidence in technical innovations.

The full presentation, entitled ‘Perspectives on Frontier Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Beyond: Scaling Up Artificial Intelligence (and Blockchain) for Public Administrations’ is available here.

The IPCLC is organised by the Boards of Appeal of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in cooperation with the EUIPO Academy.
