Insurance Law SIG’s First Transatlantic Lecture on Insurance Law

25.03.2021

On 25 March 2021, the ELI Insurance Law SIG organised the first transatlantic lecture within a series of lectures on insurance law. This successful event focused on ‘COVID-19 and Business Interruption Insurance’.

The lecture gathered about 120 participants from Europe, North America, South America and South Africa, who discussed business interruption insurance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tom Baker (William Maul Measey Professor of Law, University of Pennsylvania) presented the recent developments in US case law and James Davey (Professor of Insurance and Commercial Law, University of Southampton) the impact of the Financial Conduct Authority test cases in the UK and beyond.

This was followed by interventions by Christoph Brömmelmeyer (Professor of Civil, Insurance and European Economic Law, University of Frankfurt (Oder); Co-Chair of the ELI Insurance Law SIG) and Ulrike Mönnich (Partner at mbh ATTORNEYS AT LAW, Zurich) on the situation in Germany and Switzerland, respectively.

The presentations from the lecture are available below:

The lecture series represents a transatlantic joint venture in which leading experts from Europe, North America, South America and Africa will discuss fundamental questions of insurance law online. The second lecture will be organised on 27 May 2021 and address the question of COVID-19 and reinsurance. More information is available here.
