Following the official presentation of the ALI-ELI Principles for a Data Economy to the wider public at the Principles Conference on 18–19 October 2021 (recordings are available here), the Project Team is now engaged in discussions with stakeholders in the data economy, including businesses, practitioners, government representatives and interest groups.

Project Reporters Neil Cohen and Christiane Wendehorst together with consultants Yannic Duller and Sebastian Schwamberger met representatives of the Directorate for the Digital Economy of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy to discuss the ALI-ELI Principles for a Data Economy and their possible impact on the upcoming Proposal of the European Commission for a Data Act, which is expected to be published in the course of 2022.

During the meeting, participants exchanged ideas on concepts included in the Principles, in particular on data rights with regard to co-generated data. They also discussed the ELI Response to the Public Consultation on the Data Act, which can provide guidance on several of the policy questions the European legislators will need to address in the Data Act.
