The ELI Has a New Secretary General

Dr Vanessa Wilcox, LL.M. (Cantab) has recently been appointed Secretary General of the ELI. She completed her undergraduate law degree (LLB) with First Class Honours in 2004 at London Guildhall University and was awarded the City of London’s Recorder’s Prize for the most outstanding academic achievement among law graduates in 2003/4.

In 2005, she attended BPP Law School (Holborn, London), where she was awarded a distinction for the legal practice course. Dr Wilcox holds a Master’s Degree in Commercial Law (LLM) from the University of Cambridge (2006) and a doctoral degree from the University of Vienna (2014), for which she won the Dr Maria Schaumayer-Stiftung prize (2015) and the Verband österreichischer Banken und Bankiers (The Association of Austrian Bankers) prize (2016). Her thesis, ‘A Company’s Rights to Damages to Non-Pecuniary Loss’, is published with Cambridge University Press. Among other things, Dr Wilcox is a Fellow of the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law (ECTIL, since 2009) and is an Honorary Professor of Yantai University Law School (China, since 2015). She lectures at the University of Vienna and has held positions at other universities in Austria and abroad.

In my role as Secretary General, I am committed to maintaining the ELI’s standing by encouraging and intensifying its ongoing activities and fostering new long-term partnerships.
