Dispute Resolution: Beyond the Courts Conference in Trier (Germany)

9 November 2018: Following the approval of the European Law Institute (ELI) and European Network of the Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ) Statement on ‘Principled Relationship of Formal and Informal Justice through the Courts and Alternative Dispute Resolution’ by the ELI Council on 8 February 2018 the ELI and ENCJ organised a conference on ‘Dispute Resolution: Beyond the Courts’ that took place at the Academy of European Law (ERA). ENCJ members voted upon the Statement on 1 June, which was unanimously approved.

The Conference aimed at disseminate the output of the project by setting directions in which the discussion about dispute resolution processes should go in the future. The starting point was therefore  the presentation of the final results of the joint ELI-ENCJ Project. Given the recent developments at UN level, as well as the progress in the field of digitalisation, the potential impact of the Convention on International Settlement Agreements resulting from mediation on the relationship between courts and ADR as well as on the opportunities and challenges for digital dispute resolution were also be discussed.
