Job Announcement – Fundraising and Partnership Officer

The European Law Institute (ELI) brings over 1,600 individual and 140 Institutional Members into a powerful network of judges, academics, legal practitioners, government officials as well as policy and decision makers. Together, they form a unique European legal community from over 60 different countries in Europe and beyond.

ELI is seeking to recruit a full time (40 hours/week) articulate and highly motivated individual to pragmatically identify and pursue opportunities for future funding partnerships, primarily with institutional donors (primarily foundations and the EU). Working directly with the Secretary General, this pivotal position will entail responsibility for overseeing all aspects of our fundraising, development and grant management to nurture high-value funding relationships and secure resources to increase ELI’s impact.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, showing originality, clarity of thought in all written work, demonstrating an ability to write compelling pitches, and to communicate complex legal issues clearly to an uninformed audience. Ideally, the candidate comes with prior fundraising and partnership development experience, a high degree of emotional intelligence, and sensitivity to the needs of high value donor relationships.

Tasks

  • Develop and implement ELI’s fundraising strategy
  • Develop compelling cases for support to effectively bring across ELI’s work to potential donors on a variety of themes
  • Actively monitor relevant funding websites/portals of institutional donors (among others, foundations and the EU)
  • Develop the necessary tools and systems to deliver rigorous and systematic approach to fundraising, including the development of routines, database, scheduling tools, and optimal proposal writing processes
  • Prospect for and cultivate a healthy pipeline of donors for ELI; manage relationships, lead in donor meetings; represent ELI at donor/philanthropic sector events 
  • Lead the Institute’s proposal development from idea to proposal submission, including budget development

Minimum Requirements

  •  A university degree that relates to ELI’s work and/or a recognised qualification in fundraising or marketing
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrable results in fundraising is an advantage
  • Excellent writing and presentational skills in English are essential, with conversance in other European languages desirable

We are offering flexible working hours as well as an international and creative working environment. The post is available immediately and the contract is for the period of one year, subject to a further extension.

Please note the salary scheme of the University of Vienna (§54 VwGr IIIa) applies to this position. The minimum monthly salary is EUR 2,599.20 gross 14 times a year (full time basis), increasing based on the years of relevant work experience, with a possibility for an additional overpayment.
