ELI Business and Financial Law SIG and ELI Croatian Hub Help Organise Conference

The 5th International Conference on European Company Law and Corporate Governance was held online on 24–25 November 2022.

The Department of Law at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics and Business organised the conference in partnership with the ELI Business and Financial Law SIG, Croatian Chamber of Economy, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Croatia, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Croatia, with support of the ELI Croatian Hub.

The general theme of the conference was ‘Corporate Purpose in the Digital Era: Towards Revisiting the Directors’ Duties and Liabilities’. The keynote speakers were Professor Pierre-Henri Conac (University of Luxembourg and Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law) on ‘The EU Sustainability Agenda and its Possible Impact on Directors’ Duties and Liabilities) and Professor Edita Čulinović-Herc (University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law) on ‘The Corporate Purpose in the Digital Era – How to Respond to the Changes in the Business and Legal Landscape?’.

The Conference drew more than a hundred participants from the EU, the US, Ukraine, and Turkey. Topics in EU company law covered included the duties and liabilities of board members, digitalisation of corporate activities, integration of novel digital tools in company law, corporate governance, corporate sustainability, ESG, accountancy, auditing, and corporate financing.

In the framework of the conference, the ELI Business & Financial SIG presented the results of the ‘ELI Guidance on Company Capital and Financial Accounting for Corporate Sustainability’ project.

The ELI Croatian Hub held a meeting on the margins of the Conference, aimed at showcasing activities of the ELI and its Croatian Hub.
