Family and Succession Law SIG Webinar: Answers to New Situations

20.11.2025

The event will take place on 20 November 2025 (10:00–12:35 CET) online.

Today's society is evolving and giving rise to situations unknown some decades ago: same-sex unions, new types of filiations and parentage, surrogacy, etc. Family Law has responded to this evolution and these new situations in various ways.

As part of the annual webinar series in which the ELI Family and Succession Law SIG studies the latest developments in Family Law, this webinar focused on some of the answers from Family Law to these new social situations. Thus, in this occasion, over two parts or sessions, we have examined the determination of the applicable law specifically in cases of matrimonial property, parentage based on intention, the protection of the economically weaker party in same-sex unions, the significance of the latest reform of Family Law in Germany, gender-based domestic violence, and the impact of algorithms and AI on Family Law.
