Bernhard A Koch
Bernhard A Koch was born in 1966 in Feldkirch (Austria). He studied law in Innsbruck (Mag iur 1989), Tübingen (Germany, Dr iur summa cum laude 1992), and Michigan (USA, LLM 1993). He completed his habilitation for private and comparative law in 1998. Koch started to work as an assistant at the University of Innsbruck in 1985, where he was awarded tenure in 1999. After two years on leave for work at the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law (ECTIL) and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, he returned to Innsbruck in 2003, where he since holds a chair in civil law. He is currently the Dean of Studies of the Innsbruck Law Faculty. From 2004 to 2010, Bernhard A Koch was also the Vice-Director of the Austrian Academy of Sciences’ Institute for European Tort Law (ETL). He is inter alia a member of the European Group on Tort Law and of the EU Expert Group on Liability for New Technologies and serves as the academic director of the University of Innsbruck Medical Law Programme. Bernhard A Koch’s main fields of research are tort, contract, real property and family law as well as conflicts of laws.
