Christiaan Timmermans
Christiaan Timmermans (Ph.D. University of Leiden 1973) was a judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union from 2000 to 2010 and President of a chamber of five judges from 2003 to 2009. He was Deputy Director-General of the Legal Service of the European Commission (1989-2000) and Professor of European law at the University of Groningen (1977-1989). He held a Chair in European Judicial Protection Law at the University of Amsterdam (1997-2004) and was Visiting Professor at the University of Cambridge and Fordham Law School (New York). From 1966 to 1969 he worked as a legal secretary at the Court of Justice, subsequently as an official of the European Commission (1969-1977). From 2010 to 2012 he held the Pieter Sanders Chair at the Law Faculty of the University of Rotterdam, in 2011 he was a Fernand Braudel Fellow at the European University Institute (Florence).
