Friedrich Graf von Westphalen

Friedrich Graf von Westphalen studied at Münster, Heidelberg, Bonn and Washington DC. In 1969 he was a member of the staff of the German weekly 'Rheinischer Merkur' (foreign policy department) and from 1970 to 1973 was an in-house lawyer.

 

In 1973 Graf von Westphalen established a law firm becoming the name partner of Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partner which is presently located in Cologne, Freiburg, Frankfurt, Alicante, and Brussels employing approximately 80 lawyers.

 

He has been an Honorary Professor at the University of Bielefeld since 2004 and is Chairman of the Committee of European Private Law (CCBE – Brussels). Alongside this has been editor of 'Vertragsrecht und AGB-Klauselwerke', 40th supplement (Munich 2017), editor of 'Der Leasingvertrag', 7th edition, (Cologne 2015), co-editor of 'Die Bankgarantie im internationalen Handelsverkehr' (Frankfurt 2016); co-editor of 'Commentary on the German Commercial Code – HGB-Kommentar Röhricht/Graf von Westphalen/Haas', (Cologne 2014), author of 'Allgemeine Verkausfbedingungen', 8th edition, (Munich 2016); 'Allgemeine Einkaufsbedingungen', 8th edition, (Munich 2017).

 

Graf von Westphalen has written many articles and publications on various aspects of national and international commercial law and since 2015 he has been the editor in charge of the 'Zeitschrift für Internationales Wirtschaftsrecht' law journal (IWRZ) Munich.
