Hideki Kanda

Hideki Kanda is Emeritus Professor at the University of Tokyo and Professor of Law at Gakushuin University Law School. He teaches commercial law, corporate law, banking regulation and securities regulation. Prof Kanda served as Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago Law School (1989, 1991, 1993 and 2006), the Harvard Law School (1996) and the University of Pennsylvania Law School (2012). Prof Kanda's publications include ‘The Anatomy of Corporate Law’ (co-authored, 3rd edn Oxford University Press, 2017). Prof Kanda is Chairman of the Financial Council at the Financial Services Agency of Japan. Further, Prof Kanda is a member of the Governing Council of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UINIDROIT) and Chairman of the Working Group on Digital Assets and Private Law at UNIDROIT. In addition, he is a member of the American Law Institute, a fellow of the European Corporate Governance Institute, a councillor of the Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies at the Bank of Japan, and an advisor to Nishimura & Asahi an international law firm in Tokyo.
