In June 2021, ELI celebrated its Decennial. A decade of projects, conferences and meetings is, of course, less than almost a century of the American Law Institute’s (ALI) history, but it has enabled ELI to build a strong, influential and, as the current COVID-19 pandemic has shown, resilient community of experts of various vocational and geographical backgrounds devoted to the development of European law.
ELI also had the great pleasure of securing the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, among others, to deliver the Welcome Address at our Annual Conference, an event which again had to take place remotely owing to the pandemic but was nonetheless a success, having gathered over 550 leading judges, academics, practitioners, policy makers and others.
Additionally, ELI Council approved of five projects, namely:
- For a European Approach to R&D Tax Incentive(s)
- ALI-ELI Principles for a Data Economy: Data Transactions and Data Rights
- Business and Human Rights: Access to Justice and Effective Remedies
- Freedom of Expression as a Common Constitutional Tradition in Europe
- Use of Digital Assets as Security
