Call for the Next ELI Innovation Paper

19.10.2022

Interested authors are invited to submit their proposals for the next ELI Innovation Paper by 19 November 2022 to the ELI Secretariat.

After publishing a successful pilot Innovation Paper in January 2021, the ‘Guiding Principles for Updating the EU Product Liability Directive for the Digital Age’, and a second Innovation Paper on ‘Guiding Principles for Automated Decision-Making in the EU’ in May 2022, the Institute wishes to invite interested participants to submit their ideas for a third Innovation Paper by 19 November 2022. The author(s) of the selected submission will be given until 23 March 2023 to prepare their Paper, which will then undergo Membership consultation. Upon the ELI Council’s approval, the Innovation Paper will be published and promoted by ELI (detailed deadlines are available here). Submissions should be sent to the ELI Secretariat using the template available here.

By way of background, the ELI Innovation Paper Series aims at enabling ELI Members to propose pioneering legal or multidisciplinary ideas, which deserve the attention of the European legal community and at improving the law in Europe. An Innovation Paper should contain specific proposals for relevant stakeholders and may resemble ELI project output (see here). They are, however, usually shorter than ELI projects (typically not more than 10 pages, including the Executive Summary) and may potentially be of a more tentative nature. Innovation Papers need not necessarily be the result of comprehensive research, but they should serve as inspiration to other stakeholders and be a catalyst for discussion.
