ELI participated in the 16th Annual International Bar Association (IBA) Real Estate Investments Conference in New York. ELI Council Member, Michel Cannarsa, served as a guest speaker, in his role as a co-proposer, alongside ELI President Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell, of the ELI prospective project on Tokenisation and Real Estate.
The event provided an ideal forum to explore global legal trends. Bringing together legal practitioners and industry experts from across the Americas, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, the event facilitated robust discussions on the evolving use of blockchain technologies and asset tokenisation in the real estate sector.
ELI prospective project aims to develop a comprehensive taxonomy and identify primary legal issues associated with tokenising rights or interests indirectly related to real property. This initiative builds upon ELI’s established portfolio of digital assets work, which includes:
- ELI Principles on the Use of Digital Assets as Security (2022), and
- ELI Principles and Guidance for Enforcement Against Digital Assets (2025)
ELI extends its gratitude to the IBA’s Real Estate Section, particularly Massimo D’Angelo, Pedro Nicholson, and Janaína Vargas, for their kind invitation to participate in this highly successful event.
