On 18 April 2024, Anne Birgitte Gammeljord, ELI’s First Vice-President, was honored with the distinguished Danish Bar and Law Society Foundation’s Honorary Award. This recognition represents her extensive and distinctive contributions to the legal profession, encompassing her profound expertise in anti-money laundering within the EU and her pivotal leadership role in both academic and international spheres.
Beyond her executive role at the European Law Institute, Gammeljord assumes membership in the International Committee of the Danish Bar Council and holds significant positions within the European Association of Law Societies (CCBE). Notably, she made history as the firt female President of the CCBE and continues to take on integral responsibilities in its operations, including in the esteemed Money Laundering Committee, where she serves both as a member and as its Chairperson.
‘For me, it is great to receive the honorary award from the Danish Bar and Law Society Foundation. I have been privileged to participate in international work through the CCBE since 2003 and since 2012 also under the auspices of ELI. In these international organisations, enormous work is being done for the rule of law, of which lawyers are a very important part. The work is essential to ensure the future professional foundation for the lawyers who work in Denmark, because a larger and larger part of our national legislation originates from the EU,’ Anne Birgitte Gammeljord said.
