The European Union has embraced the importance of strategy, starting with the Lisbon strategy in 2000 and later replaced by the Europe 2020 strategy. The European Council now adopts strategic programs and sectoral strategies across various fields.
The focus of the conference was therefore the growing notion of ‘strategy’ within the European Union, while considering the role of public and private actors, both European and national, in contributing to implementation.
