The Conference discussed the approval of the constitutional bill (in Italy) that introduced the protection of the environment, animals and the ecosystem ‘for future generations’, amending art 9 of the Constitution, especially in the perspective of a possible greater specific protection in the European Convention on Human Rights and in Europe.

Under the scientific direction of Mariella Fiorentino (member of the ELI Administrative Law SIG), the event was accredited by the National Bar Council, under the High Patronage of the Chamber of Deputies, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage, the Union des Avocats Européens (UAE) as the oldest association of lawyers in Europe, as well as the Legal Clinic of the Department of Law of the University of Naples ‘Federico II’.

Among the prestigious speakers were: Sergio Costa (former Minister of the Environment), Salvatore Micillo (former Undersecretary of State for the Environment), Dr Raffaele Sabato (Judge, European Court of Human Rights), Grégory Thuan dit Dieudonné (Member, Strasbourg Bar Council; President, Human Rights Commission of the UAE and Former Senior Lawyer, ECHR).

The event received great participation from ministerial officials, academics as well as lawyers, demonstrating the great general interest in the topic.
