ELI Participates as Observer in HCCH Digital Tokens Project's Second Meeting

Prof Dr Matthias Lehmann represented ELI as an Observer at the HCCH Digital Tokens project meetings held online from 10–14 June remotely.

The first in-person working meeting of the Digital Tokens Project was held from 10–14 June 2024 at the HCCH headquarters in The Hague. It followed an online kick-off meeting held on 15 May 2024. Representatives from over 40 Member States and Observers were present at the June meeting. Prof Dr Matthias Lehmann of the ELI Council attended remotely, contributing to discussions that explored the legal implications of various digital tokens under international, regional, and national legal frameworks. Key topics included the relationship between regulation and private international law, definitions, scope, and objective connecting factors.

The second working meeting of the Digital Tokens Project is scheduled for October 2024, where further deliberations and proposals for next steps will be presented.
