01.12.2023

The ELI President’s speech, which was delivered on 1 December 2023 at the Institute’s premises in Osnabrück, explored the impact of digital contract law at European level on domestic legal systems.

In his speech entitled ‘EU Digital Contract Law and Its Disruptive Effect on Domestic Law’, ELI President, Pascal Pichonnaz, underlined three different disruptive phenomenon, some under “national control”, as they are more traditional, some linked a conflict between the DSA (a Regulation) and domestic transposition of the UCPD and UCTD, and finally the impact of Algorithmic contracts on the area of contract law as a whole.

He also congratulated the Legal Studies Institute, an ELI Institutional Member, for two decades of remarkable legal progress and thanked it for its fruitful collaboration with ELI. Founded by Prof Christian von Bar and Jens-Peter Schneider, the Institute is an integral part of the University of Osnabrück, aspiring to become one of the leading European research institutions for comparative law and the harmonisation of European law.
