On 6 and 8 May 2024, ELI’s President joined both the celebratory conference and a session dedicated to discussing a potential joint project with UNIDROIT.

On 6–7 May 2024, the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), an ELI member, held a commemorative Conference at its headquarters in Rome to honor the 30th Anniversary of the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts (UPICC). Professor Dr Pascal Pichonnaz, President of ELI, attended the Conference, joining other experts and practitioners who were involved in drafting the instrument and continue to contribute to its ongoing success.

In addition, President Pichonnaz participated in the 103rd session of the UNIDROIT Governing Council as an Observer on 8–9 May 2024. Among the topics discussed was an ELI-UNIDROIT collaborative proposal, which looks into the impact of technology on corporate sustainability within global value chains, particularly focusing on due diligence practices.

ELI and UNIDROIT already collaborated successfully on their joint Model European Rules of Civil Procedure.
