Edinburgh Law School hosted the Annual General Meeting and Conference of the European Law Faculties Association (ELFA) from 17–19 April 2024. Under the overarching theme on 'The Future of Global Legal Education,' President Pichonnaz joined a panel of international experts to explore diverse approaches to this issue.
‘Transnational legal education (rather than global education) is, as a first step, about fostering thorough understanding of domestic law, as law is culture, and culture is the product of society (geographically, economically, historically, and even philosophically). As a second step, transnational legal education is about creating structures and opportunities for students to dialogue and share views and experiences across Europe and beyond. Understanding others’ differences also helps to build shared and transnational knowledge and strategies,’ Prof Dr Pascal Pichonnaz said.
