The International Protection of Adults: Towards an EU-Wide Uniform Regime Conference, held on 17–18 September 2025 at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, focused on the proposed EU Regulation on the International Protection of Adults. Discussions centred on how advance choice statements could be effectively recognised across borders, addressing key issues such as form, certification, registration, and cross-border operation.
Adrian Ward took part in a high-level roundtable on ‘The proposed Regulation viewed from outside the EU’ alongside representatives from the European Commission (Patrizia De Luca), the Hague Conference on Private International Law (Philippe Lortie), and the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law (Ilaria Pretelli, ELI Council member).
The exchange provided valuable insights both for ensuring that the ELI project’s recommendations inform future EU and non-EU arrangements and for integrating international expertise into the project’s final output.
