The above panel took place in the framework of the Annual Meeting of the ‘Society for the Advancement of Economic Sociology’ (SASE) held at the University of Limerick (Ireland).
The panel included two presentations:
‘Value Creation: Paradigm Changes in Corporate Reporting’, by Dr David Monciardini (Senior Researcher in Business Economics at the University of Turin); and
‘ELI Report on Company Capital and Financial Accounting for Corporate Sustainability’, by Dr Yuri Biondi (Senior Tenured Research Fellow, National Centre for Scientific Research of France (CNRS); Co-Chair of the ELI Business and Financial Law SIG).
Dr Monciardini spoke about the strengths and weaknesses of the emergent EU regime for mandatory corporate sustainability disclosure. He concluded by outlining five proposals for a paradigmatic change in corporate reporting. Dr Biondi outlined the set of ELI recommendations on company capital and financial accounting for corporate sustainability aimed at: (i) providing a frame of reference and analysis to understand corporate sustainability in the context of business and law; (ii) pointing to specific issues which need to be addressed by European and national lawmakers and regulators; and (iii) establishing a set of company law instruments which set out possible solutions to cope with these issues. At the end, the speakers engaged in an intense and fruitful Q&A session with the audience.
