ELI Secretary General at the first e-CODEX Seminar on Investigation on Governance in Vienna (Austria)

30.11.2017

On 30 November 2017, ELI Secretary General Vanessa Wilcox briefly attended a Seminar on e-CODEX Governance at the Ministry of Justice in Vienna.

Background Information

E-CODEX (e-Justice Communication via Online Data Exchange) is a large-scale Project designed to improve access by European citizens and businesses to legal means across borders – specifically online handling of cross-border legal procedures. Moreover, the Project seeks to improve the interoperability of the information systems of legal authorities within the EU, and supports the implementation of common standards and solutions that make cross-border case-handling activities easier.

The European Law Institute (ELI) started cooperating with the e-CODEX team as an associate partner in the second phase of the Project, the so called Me-Codex (Maintenance of e-Justice Communication via Online Data Exchange).

The Seminar in Vienna

The Seminar was devoted to the challenge for the European Commission and the Member States to establish an all-encompassing governance model that can ensure long term sustainability and growth of the e-Justice Digital Service Infrastructure (DSI) and services beyond the life time of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme.

To pursue this challenge, this seminar focused, amongst others, on establishing a commonly understood conceptual framework and discussing and adopting an appropriate methodological approach.

The guests were welcomed by Martin Schneider (Chief Information Officer at the Austrian Ministry of Justice) and Ernst Steigenga (Coordinator of the e-CODEX Project).
