The European Commission is developing a new Consumer Agenda, aimed at ensuring that consumers can fully benefit from the Single Market, strengthening the enforcement of consumer protection legislation, protecting vulnerable consumers, and promoting a fair, green, and digital economy.
As part of the Commission’s better regulation policy, the Commission launched a Public Consultation to gather insights from various stakeholders.
In its response, ELI highlights three main priorities for the Consumer Agenda and the accompanying Action Plan on Consumers in the Single Market:
- Transforming the information model
- Introducing market standards
- Using AI and modern technologies to increase the effectiveness of enforcement.
ELI extends its sincere gratitude to Prof Dr Pascal Pichonnaz, ELI President, and Dr Aneta Wiewiórowska-Domagalska, member of the ELI Executive Committee, who prepared the Response. Our thanks are also due to the members of the Executive Committee, the ELI Council, and ELI’s Scientific Director, Prof Dr Christiane Wendehorst, for their valuable feedback and contributions.
