ELI President, Diana Wallis, and the UNIDROIT Deputy Secretary-General, Anna Veneziano, opened the two-day meeting welcoming the participants of the meeting, Project’s Reporters, Working Group Members, Advisers and Observers.

The Representatives of the European Commission, European Parliament, the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe, the Hague Conference on Private International Law, Members of the UNIDROIT Governing Council, private practitioners, and academics, attended the event and contributed with valuable remarks and comments on the presented draft rules.

The Co-reporters of the respective Working Groups, Fernando Gascón Inchausti, Eva Storskrubb, and Xandra Kramer, presented the work developed by their teams for nearly two years, as the Project was officially launched in 2014.

The participants had a chance to thoroughly review the specific provisions of the draft rules during the first six sessions of the meeting. The second part of the event was devoted to the discussion on the overarching Working Group ‘Structure’, which was established in 2016 to cohere the results produced by the Project. The Co-reporters of the ‘Structure’ Group held a meeting with the representatives of other Working Groups to confer about the planned actions and the strategy for their work.

The Project Members will continue to devise the model rules of European civil procedure and will gradually present the outcomes at the respective public events.
