The High Level Forum provided an opportunity for those gathered to discuss the recently published ELI Interim Report ‘EU Consumer Law and Automated Decision-Making (ADM): Is EU Consumer Law Ready for ADM?’, available here, and potential legislative avenues aimed at providing more clarity in this field.

Participants heard from Nils Behrndt (Deputy Director-General, Digital Transformation, Justice and Consumers; European Commission), who noted the importance of ELI’s project, and from Prof Dr Marie Jull Sørensen, (Project Co-Reporter, University of Aalborg) who presented ELI’s Principles.  

Experts and practitioners welcomed the ELI Interim Report, which aims at providing more clarity to stakeholders, and congratulated the ELI team for their achievement. They provided further valuable input, in light of their national and practical experiences, which could feed into future discussions on the matter.

The event brought together representatives of EU Ministries of Justice and national consumer’s organisations, representatives of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), DOT Europe, as well as other distinguished academics and practitioners in the field.
