Final Steps Towards the ELI-UNIDROIT Model Rules of European Civil Procedure

09.06.2020

On 9 June 2020 ELI President Christiane Wendehorst, ELI Secretary-General Vanessa Wilcox, ELI Interim Secretary-General Bea Verschraegen, the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) Secretary-General Ignacio Tirado as well as UNIDROIT Deputy Secretary-General Anna Veneziano discussed the final steps to be taken in order to adopt and publish the ELI-UNIDROIT Model Rules of European Civil Procedure.

Those involved looked back at a collaboration that commenced in 2013 and expressed their satisfaction that after several years of fruitful cooperation, the Model Rules have now been completed.

The final draft is currently before the ELI Executive and will be shared with other ELI bodies for rigorous consideration, following which it will be forwarded to the UNIDROIT Governing Council and ELI Membership for approval. Model Rules and comments as well as the French version of the black letter rules will be available for free download on both the ELI and UNIDROIT websites. They will also be published by Oxford University Press (OUP) in print and open access.

ELI and UNIDROIT plan to organise a dissemination event later this year, more details on which will be provided in due course.
