Fundamental Constitutional Principles Project Reporters met with the Team

04.06.2021

On 4 June 2021, a further meeting took place among the Reporters and a core sub group.

The meeting discussed a draft paper on the attributes of liberal democracy. It focused on the separation of church and state, religious freedom and religious equality. There was a lively discussion on whether the separation between church and state can be considered as part of the common constitutional traditions of Europe.

The group also discussed the extent to which environmental protection rights should be viewed as part of European fundamental constitutional principles in the light of case law developments in Europe and beyond.
