Professor János Németh was President of the Faculty of Law of Eötvös Loránd University for several decades, and also Chairman of the National Election Office from 1990 to 1997 and President of the Constitutional Court of Hungary from 1998 to 2003. He rendered outstanding services, especially in the transition period 1989/90, and took on an important bridging function between different actors and political currents. Professor Nemeth served on the ELI Senate from 2011 to 2017. János Németh died on 1 March 2021 at the age of 87. We will always remember him and are grateful for the contribution he made to our institution in the first years since the foundation of the ELI.
