The Bulletin of the Supreme Court, available here (p 102 ff) underscores the importance of judicial independence not just for judges, but also for state institutions and society as a whole, stressing the role of judicial independence in safeguarding liberal democracy and the rule of law across Europe. It brings ELI's 38 Standards closer to its readership, in the interest of further strengthening the framework of judicial independence in Latvia.
