The meeting at the UCD Dublin was chaired by Paul Gilligan, member of the ELI Council and Chair of the Irish Hub. Professor Imelda Maher, Dean of the UCD Sutherland School of Law, a valued ELI Institutional Observer, welcomed the around 150 participants. On behalf of the ELI Executive Committee, Denis Philippe presented the aims and achievements of the ELI. This was followed by a thorough analysis of possible new directions for the Irish legal system after Brexit by William McKechnie, a Supreme Court judge in Ireland (and also one of the Hub's Chairs) and Lord Thomas, former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and member of the ELI Executive Committee. The presentations sparked much debate and discussions were continued at a reception that followed.
