Richard Ferrand, President of the Constitutional Council, Christophe Soulard, First President of the Court of Cassation, and Marc Guillaume, Vice-President of the Council of State, approached the Conference theme from the complementary perspectives of constitutional, ordinary and administrative justice.

President Ferrand’s contribution focused on constitutional review and the protection of the fundamental principles underpinning democratic societies, including the challenges constitutional jurisdictions face in periods of political and social transformation.

First President Soulard addressed the role of the judiciary in upholding the rule of law through the application and interpretation of legal norms, as well as the relationship between national courts and European and international legal frameworks in safeguarding fundamental rights.

Vice-President Guillaume brought the perspective of the administrative judiciary, focusing on institutional checks and balances and the role of courts in reconciling public authority with individual rights. His contribution also encompassed contemporary challenges involving security, public policy, technological development and individual freedoms.

Together, the contributions placed courts and judicial institutions at the centre of the Conference’s examination of how the rule of law can remain resilient amid political, technological and societal change.
