The ELI Hosts Institutional Member Dinner at Café Landtmann to Engage in a Dialogue with Them

03.09.2019

On 3 September 2019, the ELI hosted a dinner at Café Landtmann, where ELI’s Executive Committee and Institutional Member representatives discussed important matters.

This year’s Annual Conference and Meetings, that took place from 4–6 September 2019 in Vienna, was an excellent agency to host this dinner that took place ahead of the Conference. The main aim of this event was to provide a platform for direct contact between members of the ELI’s Executive Committee and some ELI Institutional Members, that way opening a forum for dialogue and enabling Members to bring forward suggestions that can mutually benefit both them and the ELI.

The guests were Rita Giannini (Policy Advisor, Law Society of England and Wales), Simonné Gombos Katalin (Judge of the Curia of Hungary, Co-Chair of the ELI Hungarian Hub), Wolfgang Heusel (President, Academy of European Law (ERA)), Arsen Hovakimyan (President, European Law Students' Association (ELSA) Austria), Ina Hoxhaj (Chief Justice, The Supreme Court of Albania), Florjan Kalaja (Legal Assistant, Supreme Court of Albania and Judge at the First Instance Court in Pogradec), Aldis Laviņš (Judge, Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia), Jelena Lepetic (Vice-Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade), Dace L Luters-Thümmel (Secretary General, European Women Lawyers Association), Stephan Matyk-d'Anjony (International Affairs, Austrian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries (ÖNK)), John North (President, Interleges), Sanita Osipova (Vice-President, Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia), Marcella Prunbauer-Glaser (Vice-President, Austrian Bar (ÖRAK)), Anita Rodina (Dean, University of Latvia), Florence Skinner (Development Manager, British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL)), Jos Uitdehaag (Secretary, International Union of Judicial Officers (UIHJ)), Andrea Venegoni (The Supreme Court of Italy) and Stephen Walsh (Acting Head, Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE) Office of Legal Affairs).

ELI President Christiane Wendehorst, Vice-President Sjef van Erp as well as other members of the Executive, Lord Thomas and Hans Schulte-Nölke were present as were chairs of the ELI’s Membership Committee, Walter Doralt and Pascal Pichonnaz.

The event was helpful in cementing ties. The ELI would like to take this opportunity to thank representatives that attended for supporting the ELI in its mission to initiate, conduct and facilitate research, make recommendations and provide practical guidance in the field of European legal development.
