The law in Europe has a profound impact on the daily lives of European citizens, companies and institutions. As an independent organisation, the ELI aims to improve the quality of the law, support its development and contribute to its proper implementation both on a national and European level.
At the heart of the ELI’s activities are its projects: Since its founding in 2011, the ELI has embarked on almost twenty projects: eight projects have been completed, 10 projects are currently in progress (including 3 projects to be finalised and approved soon) and one prospective project is in the pipeline.
The ELI also aims at bringing legal experts together. The Inaugural Congress on 1 June 2011 in Paris was followed by seven Annual Conferences, which took place in Brussels (2012), Zagreb (2014), Ferrara (2016) and Riga (2018), abroad. Every other year the ELI Annual Conference takes place at the seat of the ELI Secretariat in Vienna, including in 2013, 2015, 2017. This year, it runs from 4–6 September in Vienna once more.
