During the first day, Armin von Bogdandy, Director of the Institute and a member of the Advisory Committee of the CCT project, discussed the ‘Situation of European Jurisprudence Today in Light of Schmitt’s Piece of 1950’ and Sabino Cassese, Reporter of the above project, addressed the question of whether the law is a unifying factor in Europe, and if so how it plays such a role. These two interventions were followed by a presentation of the ELI CCT project by its other Reporter, Mario Comba, and a discussion with Max Planck Institute researchers.

On 31 January, various members of the Project Team held a meeting to discuss the first preliminary output of the project, namely a draft report on freedom of expression. This was a chance for participants to exchange views on the approach taken in the report. The final output is due in 2021.
