The Conference was organised by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and DIGIT Science for Policy.
Prof Dr Schneider presented key elements of the ELI Model Rules at the ‘Bringing AI Closer to Citizens – Smart Communities’ panel. He pointed out that the ELI Model Rules propose an impact assessment procedure aimed at balancing the societal interest in deploying innovative AI systems in public administration on the one hand and the needs of effective risk management on the other. The Model Rules could be implemented by the EU, Member States (including their regional or local subdivisions) as well as third countries.
