At the 2026 International Society of Family Law (ISFL) World Conference, ELI President Prof Dr Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell represented ELI and served as a keynote speaker in Istanbul Turkey.
The conference brought together leading experts from around the world to discuss emerging developments, challenges, and innovations in family law. As a keynote speaker, the ELI President shared insights on contemporary legal issues, the evolving role of legal institutions, and the importance of international cooperation in addressing complex family law matters.
The ELI President's participation at the ISFL World Conference also highlighted ELI's continuing contribution to the development of family law at the European and international levels. In recent years, ELI has published several important instruments in this field, including the ELI Enhancing Child Protection: Private International Law on Filiation and the European Commission's Proposal COM/2022/695 final (2026), which examines the proposed European framework on parenthood and filiation; the ELI Principles on the Extra-Judicial Administration of Justice in Cross-Border Family and Succession Matters (2025), which provide guidance on the role of non-judicial actors in cross-border proceedings; and the ELI Report on Empowering European Families: Towards More Party Autonomy in European Family and Succession Law (2019), currently under revision, which explores ways to strengthen individual autonomy in family and succession matters across Europe.
