ELI Project on Seizing and Confiscating Sanctioned Assets Advances to Next Phase

29.01.2026

Project Chair and Reporters met on 29 January 2026 in Oxford, UK and remotely.

Building on a series of substantive exchanges throughout 2025, the Reporters of the ELI Project on Seizing and Confiscating Sanctioned Assets prepared a Preliminary Draft, which was presented to the ELI Council at its meeting on 5 December 2025 and subsequently circulated to the Project’s Advisory Committee for expert feedback.

Following the receipt of comments and suggestions from Advisors, the Chair of the project, Sir Geoffrey Vos (Master of the Rolls and Head of Civil Justice in England and Wales, ELI First Vice-President), and Reporters, Dr Illia Chernohorenko (University of Oxford), Prof Dr Burkhard Hess (University of Vienna), Prof Dr Krista Nadakavukaren Schefer (University of Basel), and Prof Dr Philippa Webb (University of Oxford)  convened on 29 January 2026 in Oxford, UK, and remotely, to undertake a comprehensive review of the feedback received. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss substantive issues raised by Advisors and agree on the next phase of work.

As part of the forthcoming dissemination and consultation efforts, the Reporters will present the project at the ELI Kick-Off Webinar on 6 February 2026 (more here). A Revised Draft reflecting the discussions and feedback will also be submitted to the ELI Council at its meeting in March 2026.

More information about the project is available here.

ELI is grateful to Professor Dr Philippa Webb for kindly organising and hosting the meeting in Oxford.
