The European Law Institute welcomed a delegation of senior public officials from King Prajadhipok's Institute (KPI) to Vienna for a two-day programme dedicated to constitutional governance, public administration, artificial intelligence, and the rule of law.

Developed in close cooperation with Dr Panya Udchachon, Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand and Adviser to KPI, the programme formed part of KPI's Advanced Diploma in Public Administration and Public Law for high-ranking government officials. Around 28 participants from central and regional public institutions took part in the visit.

The programme reflected the shared commitment of ELI and KPI to promoting good governance, constitutional resilience, and effective public administration in an increasingly digitalised world. Discussions focused on key developments in European law and governance, including the implementation of the EU AI Act, data protection in public administration, democratic governance, and the rule of law.

ELI President Prof Dr Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell opened the programme with an introduction to ELI's mission, methods, and work on digitalisation, artificial intelligence, and the rule of law. 

Participants were also addressed by ELI Scientific Director Prof Dr Christiane Wendehorst, who spoke on the EU's emerging AI regulatory framework and public administration and data protection law in Europe, and by ELI member Prof Dr Alexander Balthasar, Vice-President for Western Europe for the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), who provided insights into Austrian constitutional governance and multi-level administration.

The programme concluded with closing remarks by ELI Secretary General Dr Vanessa Wilcox and the presentation of certificates to participants.
