Webinars on ELI Principles Governing the Third Party Funding of Litigation

21.10.2024

On 21 October 2024 at 18:30 CET and on 11 November 2024 at 18:30 CET will be held two ELI Webinars on Third Party Funding of Litigation.

Register here and here respectively.

In September 2024, the ELI Council approved the Principles Governing the Third Party Funding of Litigation (TPLF), that soon will be published on our website.

The Principles aim to promote fairness and transparency in TPLF agreements, addressing information asymmetry and power imbalances between funders and litigants. Core objectives include facilitating access to justice, ensuring funder accountability, and providing a regulatory framework that balances effective oversight with flexibility. These principles offer guidelines for courts and authorities, ensuring TPLF agreements are comprehensive, fair, and in line with international legal standards and public interests.

At the Webinars, the Reporters of the ELI project will present the Principles and engage in a discussion with external stakeholders who will also shed light on the most recent developments in the field.

Confirmed speakers of the Webinar I include:

  • Pascal Pichonnaz, Chair; ELI President; Professor, University of Fribourg
  • Susanne Augenhofer, Co-Reporter; Professor, Universität Innsbruck; Visiting professor and Senior Research Scholar in Law, Yale Law School
  • Julian Chamberlayne, Risk and Funding Partner at Stewarts
  • Pia Lindholm, Deputy Head of Unit for Civil Justice, Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers, European Commission
