Job Announcement – Project Officer

The European Law Institute (ELI) brings over 1,800 individual and 180 Institutional Members into a powerful network of judges, academics, legal practitioners, government officials as well as policy and decision makers. Together, they form a unique European legal community from over 60 different countries in Europe and beyond.

ELI is seeking to recruit a part time (30 hours/week) Project Officer from January 2027. We are looking for a committed addition to our young and dynamic team who will be tasked to support the ELI Secretariat in discharging its obligations under an EU grant (in particular with respect to the execution of projects) as well as contribute towards the organisation of events and activities to be co-financed under the grant (eg the ELI Annual Conference and Council meetings). Tasks and Skills

  • A Project Officer ensures that the procedures which are essential for the smooth running of the Secretariat and the ELI are complied with. They are experienced in and has knowledge of concepts and approaches relevant to project management and administration.
  • A Project Officer is able to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plans own work and manages conflicting priorities, is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results.
  • The Project Officer is in charge of the coordination and monitoring of ELI projects and ensuring the correct execution of ELI Project Guidelines and decisions of ELI bodies. They are expected to take a critical and proactive approach and should actively assist ELI in getting the best project results possible.
  • They assist ELI bodies by preparing reports and organise meetings and other events, such as the ELI Annual Conference and Meetings.
  • Other tasks include the drafting of legal documents and contributing to the coordination of the regular ELI newsletter, Annual Activity Report and EU grant reporting.

Minimum Requirements

  • A law degree or another equivalent degree with a comprehensive legal education would be an asset.
  • Work experience in project management is essential. Further professional experience in grant management and event management or experience at international organisations would be an asset.
  • Excellent command of English is required (native speaker level).
  • Knowledge of any other language, especially German, is an advantage.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office, Internet knowledge, knowledge of Typo3 is of advantage)  

The post is available as of January 2027 and the contract is for the period of one year, subject to a further extension.

Please note the salary scheme of the University of Vienna (§54 VwGr IIIa) applies to this position. The minimum monthly salary is EUR 2,759.20 gross 14 times a year (full time basis), increasing based on the years of relevant work experience, with a possibility for an additional overpayment.
