The event featured the winner of 2024 ELI Young Lawyers Award, who delved into his acclaimed paper. The webinar brought together more than 70 students from Croatia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Romania, Serbia, Türkiye and United Kingdom.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address from Dr Ivan Tot (ELI Croatian Hub Co-Chair; Associate Professor at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics & Business).
This was followed by an insightful lecture delivered by Aron Johanson (PhD student and Research Fellow at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich) who presented his ELI Young Lawyers Award 2024 winning paper on ‘Lex Patriae versus Lex Domicilii: What Law Governs the Personal Status of Beneficiaries of Subsidiary Protection?’.
In addition to presenting his award-winning paper, Johanson shared with the participants, almost exclusively students at various level of education, his motivation for applying for the ELI Young Lawyers Award, the perks of winning the award and his experience afterwards.
Following the lecture, an engaging Q&A session ensued, allowing participants to actively contribute to the discussion.
During the Q&A session, Tot and Johanson presented the call for papers for the 2025 ELI Young Lawyers Award and encouraged students to apply for the award.
