19.03.2024

On 19 March 2024, the Hub hosted a webinar examining how lawyers can help navigate Family Business Challenges

On 19 March 2024, the ELI Croatian Hub held its 35th webinar as part of an ongoing webinar series aimed at fostering discussion on current ELI projects and recent developments in Croatian, comparative, and EU law. The webinar brought together 40 participants from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Serbia.

The event commenced with a welcome address from Prof Emilia Mišćenić (ELI Croatian Hub Co-Chair; Professor at the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law).

This was followed by an insightful lecture on ‘Family Business Challenges – How Can Lawyers Be of Assistance?’, delivered by Dr Mihaela Braut Filipović (Associate Professor at the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law, Department of Commercial and Company Law).

In the first part of her lecture, Dr Braut Filipović discussed the legal definitions of family businesses, their economic importance, and their main characteristics. The second part of the lecture discussed the management of conflicts in family businesses, particularly those relating to the determination of matrimonial property on business shares and inheritance of business shares. The third part of the lecture dealt with different strategies for the management of family businesses and explored the legal framework of adopting a family constitution, forming a family council, and establishing a family office.

Following the lecture, an engaging Q&A session ensued, allowing participants to actively contribute to the discussion.

Mark your calendars for the next ELI Croatian Hub webinar, scheduled to take place on 23 April 2024.
