On 14 March 2023, the ELI Croatian Hub held its 23rd webinar in a series of webinars organised to contribute to discussions on current ELI projects and recent developments in Croatian, comparative and EU law. The webinar gathered participants from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia.

The webinar opened with a welcome address from Mr Zoran Hačić (ELI Croatian Hub Co-Chair; Attorney-at-law and Managing Partner at Hačić & Bošnjak Law Firm, Zagreb) and was followed by a lecture on ‘The New Regime on Liability of Online Auction Platforms for Storing Illegal Content under the Digital Services Act’, delivered by Dr Kristijan Poljanec (Senior Teaching and Research Assistant at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics and Business).

The lecture provided an overview of relevant provisions of the Digital Services Act with special reference to the operation of auction platforms. Special attention was paid to novel rules on liability for online platforms for allowing consumers to conclude distance contracts with traders, new institute ‘voluntary own-initiative investigations’ and implications thereof for the platform’s immunity, novel due diligence requirements for transparent and safer online environments, as well as to novel provisions on the supervision of online platforms and sanctions.

The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session.

The next ELI Croatian Hub webinar will be held on 17 April 2023.
